Basic Structure of Website: An Essential Guide for Beginners

This blog let’s you know about the basic structure of website which you gonna build. This layout tells more about how your content is organized and how much your user can able to understand you and your services/ideas more effectively. There are three main part while designing a website. 

1. Header

The header is the top section of a website. It is where the website begins and which contains mini introduction to your visitor by giving your brand name/logo in addition with navigation menus.

Key elements of a header include:

  • Logo: Represents your brand in the top left or center of a header.
  • Navigation Menu: Menubar with multiple options to navigate visitors to different content sections of the website (e.g., Home, About, Services, Blog, Contact).
  • Call-to-Action (CTA): A button which perform a specific action provided to the user, such as “Know More” or “Shop Now”.

2. Main Content Section

The main content section displays your information about you or your brand. It is the dynamic part of a webpage, because it changes according to the page a user visits.

Key elements of the main content area:

  • Headings: Clear, short titles about your content of the website help the user to know you better and make it easier to skim.
  • Text/Body Content: The main content of the page, which includes articles, product descriptions, or blog posts.
  • Images/Videos: Visual representation that gives more visibility to user than your text and helps to interact with user. This includes product photographs, infographics, or embedded videos regarding your brand.
  • CTAs: It drives users to take the next step, which can be purchasing a product or subscribing to a newsletter.

3. Footer

The footer is the bottom section of a website, which usually contains legal information and quick links. It’s not as valued as the header,  but still an important element in user journey.

Key elements of a footer include:

  • Contact Information: Your contact info includes email, phone number, and address, if applicable.
  • Site Map: A list of quick links to make user navigation much easier to important sections or pages on the site.
  • Social Media Icons: Connect your social media profiles to make your user engaged.
  • Copyright Notice: A statement that your content is protected, usually including the current year and the website's owner.

In the above three sections, both header and footer are sticked permanently to all the pages but main content section will be change according to the pages of user visit.

With the basic section, let's know more about the main content section in detail and discuss how to make your website more engaging and interactive for visitors. Here are a few additional sections to consider:

1. Head Section

The Head Section is a next section below the header which contains information about your site. It is the first point of interaction to the visitors.

Key elements of a sidebar:

  • Slider: It showcase multiple messages or product to know about your brand.
  • Brand Information: Mini info about your brand and can show awards and trust badges.
  • Visual Enhancement: Use images or videos with effects to make your user more attractive.

2. Service/ portfolio section:

It’s the next important section which showcase what you serve or what your past work. This helps you to focus more on target users and convert leads. 

Key features of service/portfolio design:

  • Icons/Images: Visual representation for your service with clear icon or image.
  • Description: Short description about your service or work you done.
  • Animation & Effects: Use animation or effects to make more attractive to your visitors.

In conclusion, the basic layout of a wordpress website consists of only three components: the header, main content and the footer. According to your creativity of representing your ideas to your visitor  by constructing your main content section make much more scenes. While creating such content section, be more aware of how simplified and clarity content you are providing to your users through the site.
